Design and development of a new operator interface for WM Thermoforming Machines, starting from the thermoforming platform and establishing a new HMI standard to be progressively adopted across the company's machine portfolio.
The project balanced innovation with operational continuity, preserving familiarity for existing operators while introducing a modern interface aligned with WM's corporate identity.
CONTEXT
WM Thermoforming Machines initiated a modernization program aimed at improving the operator experience and creating a consistent interaction model across its machine portfolio.
One of the key challenges was maintaining continuity with the existing interface structure already familiar to machine operators, minimizing disruption and reducing resistance to change among current customers.




OBJECTIVES
Preserve operational familiarity to ensure a smooth transition for existing users.
Redefine the operator experience through usability-driven UI/UX and HMI Design.
Establish a shared graphical and functional standard across the entire WM machine portfolio.

DEVELOPMENT AND SOLUTION
AGD LAB ha analizzato l'interfaccia esistente, i flussi di lavoro e le modalità operative della macchina per identificare le opportunità di miglioramento più rilevanti dal punto di vista dell'esperienza utente.
The project resulted in a redesigned navigation architecture, clearer information hierarchy, and a visual system aligned with WM's corporate identity. The solution was developed using B&R mappView, with a strong focus on component standardization, scalability, and long-term software maintainability.
During project validation, the new HMI demonstrated significant improvements in usability, navigation efficiency, visual consistency, and overall software quality.
